Hard time for communities
I had lunch today with Christophe Binot from Total and Elisabeth Bila from Eurodoc. Reflecting upon our experience at organizing and running our community of KM practioners in the Paris area for the last six months now, it appeared that we needed to extend our membership base, plan for a major public event at the end of the year, and ask a french management icon to sponsor us.
Nunc est bibendum!
From our experience at organizing and running a community of KM practitioners, it appeared that we needed to reactivate our network and extent our membership base. We will thus invite new people from other companies to share their practical experience of developing knowledge-based organizations. The new objective we will be pursuing is to organize a "knowledge fair" by the end of this year, where we collectively, as a community, present to the top executives of our companies our most instructive KM experiences in our network. Sounds very exciting.
We also talked about creating a new spirit and increasing the energy level by having our community sponsored by a very visible management icon or guru in France. It appears to us that many attempts at creating communities of Practice fall short on this issue of sponsorship. If you want to attract membership and maintain a high level of energy, it is crucial to have this community endorsed by some trusted luminary that will make it legitimate. We need one now (not Jean-Marie Messier!). Maybe this is what Etienne's CPSquare needs too nowadays.
