This picture from our family house in Normandy was taken just after Christmas. The wall in the front was built in 1697, the one in the back some time during the hundred years war in the 14th century. The gate in the middle does not give access to anything particular, just an orchard with apple trees. I like it that way. It makes me tthink of this quote from Soljenitsyn:
As long as one can breathe, after the rain, under an apple tree, one can still liveIncidentally, this gate means much more to me. I was painting it when little Rose had her accident.
